Collaboration with Academia

To better understand how structures perform, Simpson Strong-Tie teams up with other researchers across the U.S. Simpson regularly donates products to universities for testing purposes and volunteers time to teach courses. On occasion Simpson will also lend financial support to further research efforts. For example, it recently donated $500,000 to California State Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo, for the construction of a new laboratory to test structural components. Ongoing collaboration with various researchers allows Simpson to learn from others, share its expertise and provide a broader knowledge of structural safety, helping the industry as a whole to build safer structures. In addition to Cal Poly, Simpson has worked with the following universities:

  • Washington State University
  • Colorado State University
  • University of Virginia
  • University of Wisconsin at Madison
  • Clemson University
