A History of Testing, Innovation and Performance

Simpson Strong-Tie's commitment to product design and testing has grown and expanded over the years to include a whole-systems approach to building design. One of the key milestones that launched us down this path was the development of our first factory-built wood shearwall — the Strong-Wall®.

The introduction of pre-fabricated shearwalls not only brought an alternative to site-built walls, but also helped streamline the quality, consistency and performance of shearwalls in the field. Today, Simpson Strong-Tie offers a full array of patented, code-listed Wood and Steel Strong-Wall Shearwalls.

All Simpson Strong-Tie Strong-Wall shearwalls are now code-listed to the 2012 IRC/IBC.
Steel Strong-Wall shearwalls conform to ICC-ES Acceptance Criteria AC322 (see ICC-ES ESR-1679).  Simpson Strong-Tie Wood Strong-Wall shearwalls conform to ICC-ES Acceptance Criteria AC130 (see ICC-ES ESR-1267). Our new Strong-Wall SB wood shearwall is code listed under 2012 IRC/IBC (see ICC-ES ESR-2652).
