Engineering Services Technician

McKinney, TX or Columbus, OH

Position Summary:

The Simpson Strong-Tie Engineering Services group is focused on delivering services and support to internal customers in innovative ways. The Engineering Services Technician will interface with Simpson employees to understand and process incoming requests for service, coordinate work with the staff engineers and be responsible for delivery of projects back to requestor. Additionally, the Technician will provide staff engineers with direction and training as needed.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

% Time Job Responsibilities
35% Project review – As projects are completed they must be reviewed prior to sending the final product back to the internal customer. In some cases clear direction must be given to the staff engineers in order to revise the final product. In other cases it will be critical to understand the aspects of the projects so that you can effectively communicate with the person receiving our final product what areas of concern, or questions need to be answered. Having the ability to see potential problems before they arise provides tremendous value to our customers.
25% Project Coordination – Requests for services must be coordinated, communicated and organized in a way that is easy for the staff engineers to understand what is being requested as well as navigate the supporting files. As questions come back from staff engineers the Technician will need to respond in a timely manner in order to keep projects on track. Clear direction is a critical element when working with teams in staff engineers so that they understand the assignment upon receipt since our working hours do not overlap.
25% Existing service maintenance – Existing services evolve over time due to changes in a product line, the needs of our customers or to improve efficiency. The Technician will need to develop requirements that describe the resulting change as well as train the Staff engineers performing the service. Testing of the service prior to deployment to ensure it is accurate and meets our customer's needs will also need to be done by the Technician.
10% New service development – As new services are developed the Technician will need to become knowledgeable of the service and understand the needs of our customer, develop requirements and content that will be received by our customer, train the Staff engineers performing the service and test the service prior to deployment.
5% Additional tasks as directed by the Director of Engineering or the Vice President of Engineering.

Education & Certification Requirements:

Required or Preferred Degree or Certification
Required High School Diploma or General Education Degree (G.E.D)
Preferred Bachelor's Degree (B.A./B.S.)

Minimum Experience:

2 years Working knowledge of the construction industry. Knowledge of Simpson Strong-Tie product line and construction estimating a bonus.

Software Demonstrate the ability to quickly learn software. Frequently used software includes: Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, Blue Beam – Adobe Acrobat, and AutoCAD. In addition to these, the ability to use the following web based programs is also required: Simpson web-apps, Confluence, The Forge.

Travel Required / %: This job requires domestic travel, 5% of the time.

This full-time, non-exempt position will be located in any of our manufacturing locations, although the preference would be either the McKinney, TX or the Columbus, OH branch.

Relocation will not be considered for this position.
