Simpson Strong-Tie, a leading manufacturer of anchoring, fastening systems and concrete repair, protection and strengthening products, seeks a uniquely qualified individual for the position of Composites R&D Engineer at the West Chicago, IL location.
|% Time||Job Responsibilities|
|50%||Research and develop composite and related products. Conduct and oversee product testing in accordance with industry and internal standards. Provide technical input into product literature. Provide technical support to internal and external customers.|
|30%||Provide technical support for manufacturing process improvements and changes to products. Support quality control objectives. Provide technical evaluation and qualification of raw material suppliers and vendors.|
|20%||Other projects as directed by the Engineering Manager, Restoration & Protection Products.|
|Required or Preferred||Degree or Certification|
|Required||Bachelor of Science Degree (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Polymer Engineering or a related field from a four-year college or university|
|Preferred||Experience with fiber reinforced polymer composite materials (i.e. carbon fiber, fiberglass, etc.)|

|Language||Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors|
|Reasoning||Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables|
This full-time, exempt position is located in West Chicago, IL.
