BCS Post Cap w/ Double-Shear Nailing

The BCS is designed to connect a multi-ply member beam to a post. The dimensions of this post cap accommodate the narrower width of multiple 2x members on top of the post. The BCS provides both lateral and uplift support and features double-shear nailing that distributes the load through two points for optimal strength.

Key Features

  • Opposing flanges provide increased lateral resistance
  • Double-shear nailing for optimal strength
  • Sized specifically for multi-2x widths

Material

  • 18 gauge

Finish

  • Galvanized, ZMAX® coating, or stainless steel; see Corrosion Information

Installation

  • Use all specified fasteners; see General Notes
  • Do not install bolts into pilot holes
  • Install dome nails on beam; drive nails at an angle through the beam into the post below to achieve the table loads

Load Tables

For stainless-steel fasteners, see Fastener Types and Sizes Specified for Simpson Strong-Tie Connectors.

BCS2-2/4 is approved for installation with Strong-Drive® SD Connector screws.

BC/BCS Post Caps Load Table
  1. Allowable loads have been increased for wind or earthquake loading with no further increase allowed. Reduce where other loads govern.
  2. Structural composite lumber columns have sides that show either the wide face or the edges of the lumber strands/veneers known as the narrow face. Values in the tables reflect installation into the wide face. See technical bulletin T-C-SCLCLM for load reductions resulting from narrow-face installations.
  3. Base allowable loads assume that nails have full penetration into the supporting member. Loads do not apply to end-grain post installations.
  4. Fasteners: Nail dimensions in the table are listed diameter by length. For additional information, see Fastener Types and Sizes Specified for Simpson Strong-Tie Connectors.
