MDCST Medium Duty Diaphragm Chord Strap Tie

Simpson Strong-Tie tested and load-rated tension straps and fasteners are designed to minimize cost and maximize speed and precision — while providing the strength, versatility and reliability you depend on. The MDCST48 is a 14-gauge high-capacity strap specifically designed to carry tension across a CLT floor or wall panel joint. The MDCST48 installs with Simpson Strong-Tie® Strong-Drive® SDS Heavy-Duty Connector screws.

Key Features

  • Pre-punched screw holes speed fastener installation
  • High capacity reduces the need for expensive shop-fabricated steel plates
  • Straps may be overlapped to reduce the physical space or footprint needed to transfer high loads across a panel joint

Material

  • 14 ga.

Finish

  • Galvanized (G90)

Installation

  • Use all specified fasteners; see General Notes

  1. Allowable loads have been increased for wind or seismic loading with no further increase allowed; reduce where other loads govern.
  2. If wood tends to split, consider predrilling holes with diameters not exceeding 0.75 of the nail diameter (2015/2018 NDS® 12.1.5.3). Use a 5/32 bit for Strong-Drive SDS Heavy-Duty Connector screws.
  3. Use half of the required fasteners in each member being connected to achieve the listed loads.
  4. Tension loads apply for uplift as well when installed vertically.
  5. Listed allowable tension loads are based on steel tension capacity of the strap.
  6. When using the MDCST48 as a single strap, fill only round holes. When using the MDCST48 as a double/overlapped strap, fill round and triangle holes. Fill the fastener holes uniformly on both ends of the strap.
