The MSTC is designed to resist tension loads in wood-to-wood applications. This medium strap tie utilizes a staggered nail pattern to help minimize wood splitting. The high-capacity MSTC also features countersunk nail slots for a lower nailing profile.

  2. Install nails as specified by designer. Nail values may not be combined.
  3. Splitting may be a problem with installations on lumber smaller than 3 1/2"; either fill every nail hole with 0.148" x 1 1/2" nails or fill every other hole with 0.162" x 2 1/2" nails. Reduce the allowable load based on the size and quantity of fasteners used.
  4. Fasteners: Nail dimensions in the table are listed diameter by length. For additional information, see Fastener Types and Sizes Specified for Simpson Strong-Tie Connectors.
