LPCZ Light Post Cap

The LPCZ is designed for a variety of connections between a 4x or 6x beam and a post. This versatile, light post cap has an adjustable design that allows for connection versatility in both new and retrofit applications where structural support is needed. The LPCZ has a ZMAX® coating, a thicker galvanized finish that helps to extend the service life of the connector.

Key Features

  • Always install in pairs; universal design eliminates need for rights and lefts
  • Stronger than angled nailing or screw fastening; eliminates nailing into end grain
  • Can be installed after beams have been put in place

Material

  • LPC4Z — 18 gauge; LPC6Z — 16 gauge

Finish

  • ZMAX coating

Installation

  • Use all specified fasteners; see General Notes
  • Install all models in pairs
  • 2 1/2" beams may be used if 0.148" x 1 1/2" nails are substituted for 0.148" x 3" nails

Load Tables

These products are available with additional corrosion protection.

Many of these products are approved for installation with Strong-Drive® SD Connector screws.

LPCZ Post Caps Load Table
  1. Allowable loads have been increased for wind or earthquake loading with no further increase allowed. Reduce where other loads govern.
  2. Connector table loads and fastener quantities are listed for two parts.
  3. LPCZ lateral load is in the direction parallel to the beam.
  4. Uplift loads do not apply to spliced conditions. Spliced conditions must be detailed by the designer to transfer tension loads between spliced members by means other than the post cap.
  5. Structural composite lumber columns have sides that show either the wide face or the edges of the lumber strands/veneers known as the narrow face. Values in the tables reflect installation into the wide face. See technical bulletin T-C-SCLCLM for load reductions resulting from narrow-face installations.
  6. Fasteners: Nail dimensions in the table are listed diameter by length. For additional information, see Fastener Types and Sizes Specified for Simpson Strong-Tie Connectors.
